An exquisitely crafted staircase with ‘french polished woodwork’ that is seductively inviting with its witty combination of materials that parody ‘marble skeuomorph’ and bourgeoius ‘18th C furniture library steps’. It demonstrates a collusion between craftsmanship, aesthetic sensitivity, conceptual apptitude, and playfulness that coalesce in a work that invites the viewer to ascend the stairs with a cushioned aascent promised by ‘itchy pink bats’. However, common sense prevails with the realisation the glass covered bat cushions are fake, a photographic deception, a quagmire. Ascent is impossible… to add to the dilema the steps circuitous route is a mere 180 degrees making any aspiration to make the ‘top shelf’ impossible.
